PETS ESTATE PLANNING
Pets play an important and valuable role in our daily lives. We routinely consider them members of the family. They can easily be our closest friends, our confidants, our support group and our listening buddies. Our pets greet us at the door as we arrive home from a challenging day. They help us become unburdened from the cares of the world. Pets are proven "de-stressers". They faithfully provide unconditional love, affection and attention. They entertain us, protect us and, sometimes, when we are disabled or ill, provide for our needs. Pets supply an amazing service with little or no expectancy of reward, no pay and are always "on call". "Mongo" never has the day off.

Yet, when we plan our estate, our pets are often overlooked. Pets are frequently dismissed as insignificant and left for someone else to sort out. However, it needn't be that way. You can easily plan for your pet's care, provide for their needs and insure their support.
Through your estate plan you can set into motion those necessary decisions and make arrangements to provide for their continued well-being. You can easily answer the questions that will be asked by others when it becomes their responsibility to handle your affairs.
We can provide for your pet's future in a variety of ways. Through your Will is a very common method. The Will sets forth who gets "custody" of your precious and, most importantly, provides funds to pay for your pet's care. However, doing so through a Trust is a much better way. A Trust avoids the need for probate and eliminates costly legal fees. In a nutshell, "A Trust Saves You Money".
Currently, costs for animal care, grooming, medical, dental, drug and other health related needs, can comprise a significant portion of the family budget. You commonly make provision for these reoccurring expenses and wouldn't dare dream of missing your dear pet's annual exam, scheduled vaccinations or teeth cleaning. Such costs will, without a doubt, increase in the coming years. Veterinary and grooming care for your Pets will remain a top priority for any plan you establish. It's wise to provide adequate funding in anticipation of these needs. Proper Estate Planning can use a variety of methods to do this: life insurance; cash reserve funding and income generating property are all likely resources.
Animals with specialized training to assist the blind, the hearing impaired, disabled or special needs individuals... or animals having finely honed skills in tracking, security, search and rescue, hunting, herding, working skills, media, entertainment, cinema or other talents, all "demand" special provision in your will or trust.
Breeders of pedigreed animals have invested countless hours, hard earned money, energy, blood, sweat and tears into developing their "best of breed". These individuals would never allow their sudden demise to throw all of their hard work and achievements into jeopardy. Of course, they'll protect their investment .... and so should you.
Old "Tiger" will never be a prize winner but that shouldn't diminish his value to your family. Make sure he's properly cared for after you're gone.
